Standing Ovation

Arguably the JVC Jazz Festival's most beloved city, this year's JVC Jazz Festival – Newport had a couple of unprecedented moments, one never to be repeated again.

That would be the attendance of Prince Albert of Monaco and stage and film actress Celeste Holm, who both attended the opening night at the International Tennis Hall of Fame for the performance of John Pizzarelli's Big Band and vocalist Jane Monheit. Scenes of Newport were featured in the movie High Society, that starred Prince Albert's mother, Princess Grace Kelly, Ms. Holm and the Frank Sinatra and the film celebrated its 50th anniversary.

The audience enjoyed the festival under the blue sky

The second "first" was a weekend of picture-perfect weather, ideal for a weekend of outdoor shows. Not a drop of rain, not a cloud in the sky, no humidity and a perfect sea-breeze provided the perfect backdrop for the International Tennis Hall of Fame on Friday night, and Fort Adams State Park on Saturday and Sunday.
